A Few Minutes

by Reb Gutman Locks

The family is from Philadelphia. The father is a lawyer. This was the first time any of them had ever put on tefillin. They read the Shema in English and then I had the father repeat the blessing that the Priests say when blessing the community. Then he prayed for the things that he would like Hashem to give them. They stood close to the Kotel and prayed for all of the good things they could think of.

He didn't want a picture but I insisted so they would have a physical reminder of their experience at the Kotel. As they were leaving I heard the father say, "Maybe we will join the synagogue down the street."

A few minutes can change your life…, spend them well.

  1. Loved this story. The father's last comment says it all.
