(A true story)

Many years ago a Chabad rabbi was on a college campus in Southern California looking for Jews to shake the luluv (four species). He found a young man who had never fulfilled the mitzvah before. The conversation went something like this:

"Hi, are you Jewish?"

"Sure, I am."

"Come shake the luluv?"

"Come do the mitzvah of shaking the luluv?"

The boy walked over. The rabbi handed him the luluv and had him repeat the appropriate blessings. The boy had no idea what he was doing. He had never even seen a luluv before.

Even if he was not particularly happy doing it, the rabbi was very happy for him. Then the rabbi told him, "Okay, now shake"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, it's a big mitzvah, shake!"

"Okay. So the boy, holding the luluv in front of him started shaking his body from head to toe!"

As the Torah says; take the four species and "…rejoice before Hashem your G-d…."[i]
