Jerusalem Chicken Rings!

by Reb Akiva @ Mystical Paths

(The picture, a package in the grocery frozen section, reads: Jerusalem Chicken, Chicken Rings, Glatt (Kosher) under Rabbi Machpud (supervision))

The Rambam writes, in Mishna Torah – Hilchos Teshuva, that one who has committed serious averot (sins) can bring himself to teshuva (repentance & return or reconnection to Hashem) by exiling himself to a foreign land.

Onions are round and slice nicely into a ring shape.  If you batter and fry them, they make a tasty treat – onion rings.

When I wonder a grocery frozen section in the modern State of Israel, I encounter Fish Rings and Chicken Rings.  And I don’t know why.  I’ve yet to see a round chicken or round fish that slices nicely into rings.

I feel lost, wandering in a strange place, out of my element.  Vulnerable, not comfortable or understanding.

Can a Jerusalem Chicken Ring bring one to do teshuva?  Perhaps it can.

  1. Dear Reb Akiva,

I love a boiled "Bread Ring" though.
Hard to beat a good old fashioned Bagel!
