Musical Effect

th (2)A knowledable rabbi learned in the secrets of Kabbalah commented on Why Isn’t The Culture Jewish

The Ari HaKodosh (the holy Rabbi Yitzchok Luria, the leading kabbalist of Safed from 300 years ago and the “father” of the current Jewish mystical perspective) says the highest world is called “taamim”, literally notes.

What this means on a personal level is that music and rhythm is the highest influence, influencing thought, desire, speech and action.

There's no getting away from it.

A recent study has shown that kids pick up first the rhythm in a language, then the words.

It's the “tune” they tune into..

It is then little wonder the great Rebbes of yesteryear placed such an emphasis on music.

If the music is pure, the outcome - thought, speech, action - will be too.

If not, G-d forbid, it enhances negative drives and desires or even drives them.
