What Happened?

by Reb Gutman Locks @ Mystical Paths

This tourist is from America. He strongly refused to put on tefillin. He had put them on once before, and he did not see any sense to do it again. I insisted, and for some reason, he gave in.

After he read the Shema, I had him pray for his family and for his personal needs. He stood there praying for well over 10 minutes. I wondered what was going on in his head. We see this a lot. First a tourist does not want to put them on, and then he does not want to take them off.

When I took the picture I asked him, “What happened? You did not want to put on tefillin, and then once you had them on, you didn’t want to take them off. What changed?”

He said, “They made me feel good about myself.”
