There is a Body and a Soul

at the Western Wall with Reb Gutman Locks on Mystical Paths

An American family visited the Kotel and put on tefillin for the first time. The grandfather is in a wheelchair, and he had never blessed his son before. People naturally want to do such things, but they are never told that a father can, and should bless his children. You should have seen the way they cried.

A person has a body, and a soul… the physical and the spiritual. We have to have a body in order to live in this world. But most of us think that we are the body. We are not the body. The body is only a vehicle that we are riding in.

At the proper time, each of us is going to pass into the next world. As we leave our bodies we are going to see the body laying there, and we are going to say, “Wow! It’s true! I was not that body that is laying there. That’s not me. I am going up, and that body is going down! Wow!”

If we take the time now to truly understand that we are the spiritual dweller residing in the body, and not the body itself, we will begin to gain a spiritual perspective. Then, when we want to give our loved ones something, instead of a quick trip to the Mall, we will ask, “How can I give them a blessing?”
