Winter Mornings…

by Reb Gutman Locks @ Mystical Paths

It is good to have a fixed place to pray every morning. For the past 25 years, every winter morning, my regular place has been behind the open sefer (holy book) in the picture. The “612” on the left side, by the mezuzah, was the time of sunrise that morning. We time our prayers so we say the main, silent prayers at sunrise. King David said, “I wake the dawn.”

This picture was taken at 2:30 a.m., before the crowd arrived. Sometimes, at that hour it can be quiet, and you can feel the holiness that is always there, but hidden by the noise. Whenever you feel the least increase of holiness, it makes you yearn for more…. “Your Presence, Hashem, do I seek. Do not conceal your Presence from me….”[i]

[i] Psalms 27:8
