Sixty Years Late

   by Reb Gutman Locks

Sixty Years Late

He is from America, but he was born and raised in Poland. He was born 73 years ago. That was 1946, a few years after the Holocaust. I told him he was lucky that he wasn't born when I was or he would not have lived. Thank G-d, I was born in New York, or I would not have survived.

It was the first time he had ever put on tefillin. Sixty years later than it should have been. He read the Shema and stood by the Kotel a long time speaking to Hashem in his heart.

When he finished, I told him when he goes to Heaven the Gate Keeper is going to ask him if he ever put on tefillin and he is going to say, "Yeah, remember that old guy at the Kotel helped me," and they are going to let you in."

I asked him if he spoke with Hashem in his heart. He said, "Yes".

"What did Hashem say to you?"

He answered, "He said He was going to answer all of my prayers."

As you can see, not only was it a meaningful time, but he enjoyed himself, too.
