Too Fast!

      Too Fast!

These first parshas (weekly Torah portions) in the Torah go too fast. In fact, the entire book of Genesis flies by. It seems that we could spend the entire year on it alone.

The awe of our fathers and mothers! What they did as individuals that changed the world forever. We are supposed to emulate them, but our lives are so small and seemingly insignificant when compared to theirs. What are we to do?

The fact is, as difficult as it may seem, their lives are our lives. Their deeds are our deeds, albeit we operate on a tiny level when compared to them.

The Five Books of the Torah come to explain to us what we are doing in our daily lives. The deeds of these giants are signs of what we go through.[i] This means that we are to learn lessons from the deeds of our ancestors that affect our individual lives today. The Torah is not merely the history book of the Jewish People. It is a guide to our personal lives.

I am glad someone thinks what I have thought so many times.

Bereshit and Noach to me are so full of information and deep mystical concepts that one could spend a lifetime studying them alone and it would not be enough time to learn all their mysteries.
It is almost as if they are "Special Parashot" which contain deep knowledge of science and history that are speculated over by the top astronomers and geneticists and by those interested in human origins.

    Shabbat Shalom
