Standing at the Kotel looking for Jews to help… One after the other, thousands of people walk by. These days the majority are non-Jewish tourists, many Chinese. Apparently the UN put the Kotel on its list of historical sites so these tourists come just to see the historical scenery…, and the Chinese love to take your picture.
It's like fishing for a diamond; "Is your mother Jewish? What language do you speak? But then you bring one in. Now it's like polishing diamonds. You pick up a stone and you polish it and it begins to shine. A valuable stone lost in the rubble.
His father's catholic. He is a research doctor from Chicago. Never saw tefillin before. Never knew he was a Jew. He was very relieved to find out that he is not half catholic. "Catholic is a belief. Jews are a people." I told him that he had to marry a Jewish girl. He was happy about that.
