I was standing at the Kotel watching the young Jewish soldiers walking by. Here they are, joining the Army in order to protect Jewish lives, obviously, this includes mine. What can I do to say, thank you?
I bet you already figured it out.
"Hi, did you put on tefillin today?"
"No. I've never put them on once in my life."
"Come here, I have something special for you."
I gently pulled his arm and put tefillin on him. In the sales departments it's called, 'assumed consent'.
After he read the Shema I told him what an important day it was for him. Seeing that it was the first day he had ever put on tefillin he should pray for whatever he wanted because Hashem was really going to listen to him. He closed his eyes and prayed for a long time.
As you can see, putting on tefillin made it a special day for him, and he enjoyed doing it.
So did I.
