I believe that the Ba'al Shem Tov began to mekarev Jews with Sod in the year 5500 or 5501 specifically because the beginning of the 6th century of the 6th millennium was fitting for opening the wellsprings of upper knowledge from above according to the Zohar. The wellsprings of the lower knowledge quickly followed with the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the 1760s (5520s). One can check the exact date when the Watt's Industrial Steam Engine was invented, and Mankind was off like a rocket. Yet, Chassidut had a 20 year head start.

an old joke: the Chassid wears a gartle to separate between the lower part of his body, and the parts of his body that can regularly be used for kedushah with fewer issues of tumah. So it effectively separates the upper six sefirot from the lower four sefirot which are G-d forbid often associated with Arayot. The Kohanim in the Temple service wore an Avnet as commanded by the Torah for the same purpose. Also with tefillah and avodat HaLev, it is important that mind and heart be connected without baser thoughts. The Mitnaged or the Litwak will often wear a tie which performs a separation between the mind and the heart. For a judge (Dayan), this is actually a good thing so that judges are not swayed by emotions, but in Chassidut, this is not necessarily good for Avodah and Ma'asim which should include the heart. It is best only to wear a tie around the neck if for whatever reason one wants to impress someone in a work environment. This is my personal view. I can count on one hand the number of times that I have worn a tie here in Eretz Yisrael. HaShem broke the yoke from around my neck and lead me upright to Eretz Yisrael.

Then there is the Islamicist who wears a keffiyah with a gartle around his head separating his brain from the rest of his body.
