Nobel Prize for Predicting the End

by Reb Akiva @ Mystical Paths

The “Ig Nobels” are prizes given for unusual real scientific research of items of highly questionable usefulness.  For example, this year’s Ig Nobel chemistry prize was given for “determining the ideal density of airborne wasabi (pungent horseradish) to awaken sleeping people in case of a fire or other emergency” while the medicine prize for “demonstrating that people make better decisions about some kinds of things — but worse decisions about other kinds of things‚ when they have a strong urge to urinate.”

This year’s Ig Nobel mathematics prize went to…

Dorothy Martin (who predicted the world would end in 1954), Pat Robertson (who predicted the world would end in 1982), Elizabeth Clare Prophet (who predicted the world would end in 1990), Lee Jang Rim (who predicted the world would end in 1992), Credonia Mwerinde (who predicted the world would end in 1999), and Harold Camping (who predicted the world would end on Sept. 6, 1994 and later predicted that the world will end on Oct. 21, 2011), for teaching the world to be careful when making mathematical assumptions and calculations.

From May 24, 2011: California preacher Harold Camping, who said the world would end on May 21, now says the Rapture will happen in October, 2011.

We watch for signs, we listen to the words of the gedolim, tzaddikim and mekubalim.  And some listen to the words of the special children and the seeming prophet or psychic.  And while we seem to be very close, while conditions seem to be almost exactly what’s described by the biblical prophets… still WE ARE NOT and there ARE NO PROPHETS at this time.  every .. single .. prediction .. of .. the .. geulah .. has .. been .. wrong ……... by everyone.

The holy words of our holy sages to turn away from our evil inclination and negative deeds are only for the good and positive.   And holy rebukes and warnings from the tzaddikim and mekubalim are only to return us to our Father in Heaven.

But the predictions, sometimes taken out of context of using current events to deliver warnings to return to Hashem, sometimes being interpreted by the well meaning among the Jewish people who yearn so strongly for Moshiach…. let’s just say we still await that great day.

The Ketz (the end date of the Geulah) was hidden by Hashem and only known by Moshe rabbaynu (Moses our teacher).  For the rest of us, we listen for the sound of the Great Shofar – may it be today!

Knowing that we are within range, at least, of the Ketz can intensify our teshuvah. However, attempts to pin it down to a date which proves to be wrong can lead to sadness and despair, the reverse of teshuvah. Those of us today who put out dates should think "Do I, the non-Navi, want to cause damage to Klal Yisrael by proclaiming my educated guess?"

How does Reb.Akiva know that the Ketz was revealed to Moses or even Jacob ?

Of what use is the information to Moses anyways ?

All evidences so far show that the Ketz is hidden from all flesh.

However the tanach is very explicit about signs that indicate the SEASON (in it's time Is.60:22).

GUESSES are not bad as long as they are recognized and acknowledged as GUESSES by the author.

We know that Ya'akov knew the keitz for a brief moment because at the end of his life he says, "Come gather around and I will tell you that which will occur to you at the End of Days." And Rashi explicitly says that at that moment Ya'akov wanted to reveal to his sons the Keitz, but the Shekhinah left him before he could reveal it. It is curious that Ya'akov could not remember the date just because the Shekhinah left him. an interesting quandary of instant memory loss.

We also know from Medrash Sefer Eliyahu that Eliyahu HaNavi knew the name of the last leader of the Erev Rav imposed on us by the Western World would be a man named TRMLO. He learned this secret from Michael the Great Angel as he was sleeping under a rotem tree running away from Jezebel on his way back to Mt. Sinai to try to return the Torah to G-d. He was deeply depressed, but he was awakened twice, once to be fed with food and once to be fed with food for thought about the End of Days by Michael. For those who can't read backwards like Leonardo Da Vinci, TRMLO backwards is Olmert. Curious Michael the Great Prince of Israel did not tell Eliyahu about Netanyahu, who followed Olmert as PM, as coming from the Erev Rav. It makes one wonder who Netanyahu is or at least who he could be if he worked on himself.

After Ehud Barak ran roughshod over Netanyahu and destroyed three homes in Migron on orders from the US State Dept., I too have given up on Netanyahu. He simply lacks the personal courage that comes from an abiding faith in G-d to take on evil in the world unless he has an audience to give him a few standing ovations. But in no way is he the poster man for Rav Yoshe Ber Soloveitchik's "Lonely Man of Faith". Yes, he has the pedigree to be Mashiach ben Yosef if he had ever grabbed the brass ring, but without emunah and bitachon he is destined to fail. He has the Yud Key Vav in his name which seems to be the necessary spiritual ammunition to defeat Amalek in the world, one of MBY's necessary accomplishments as a successful leader. Yet, with no abiding faith in G-d, (as Mordechai said), "relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place." In short, if Bibi continues along this path of cowardice, his replacement has already been chosen. Maybe just maybe a man named Yehonatan....

A few months ago, the government ministers had a Shabbat getaway in Tzfat. Netanyahu was called up for Levi at mincha - not MBY or MBD.

I think that we, and sites that talk geulah frequently, should come up with an agreed definition of prophecy along the lines of - prophecy is the message of Hashem from a prophet. Anything else is a prediction or forecast?, or perhaps a ruach hakodesh snapshot at the time of the forecast. I agree with anon that 'guesses' or rather forecasts should always be prefaced.

Josh: MBD's yichus is always patrilinear. This is not so with MBY. We see this from Yehoshua bin Nun himself and with all the b'nai Rachel in general. I believe that Yehoshua had only daughters. So if MBY has to come from Yehoshua of Ephraim, he has to come from his daughters. We also learn about the laws of the inheritance of women from daughters of Tzelafchad from the other son of Yosef, Menashe. Finally we see with Dariyavush that his Meshichut to complete the 2nd Temple came from his mother Esther of Binyamin, not from his evil father. So kingship and inheritance for the Bnai and Bnot Rachel is sometimes matrilinear and therefore harder to trace. This in not a problem for the Bnai Leah whose king, Yehudah, that came from her passes on his malkhut patrilinearly. This could possibly explain Netanyahu's problem. The Yud Key Vav is in his last name, not his first name. So the Yosef part of his personality comes from his father and not his mother. even if his father patrilinearly is a Levi and his father's mother is from Ephraim.

Finally for those who want to look into this kabbalistic matter, Amalek is the principal representative in the world of the masculine aspect of the yetzer hara. We know this because for Amalek we say zachor which can mean Remember but can also mean male. Amalek can only be defeated in the world by the feminine aspect of the yetzer hatov, the children of Rachel and her descendants. The masculine aspect of the yetzer hatov are of course from the children of Leah. And they can defeat the feminine aspect of the yetzer hara, Lil___, cannot even write her name. This is why Shimon and Levi before destroying Shkhem had to weaken the men by getting them to do brit milah before they destroyed the city when the men were sick on the third day after the circumcision. Of course, Shimon and Levi are bnai Leah. Personality wise, Yosef was a bit effeminate, for he was constantly working on his appearance. This was not the case with Yehudah. Yosef and Binyamin both were strong in the visual arts and are still so today with an inordinate number of Chabadnicks, the bnei Ephraim of this generation, are very strong in the visual arts. On the other hand the Bnei Leah are very strong in the musical arts as we see with King David himself who was a master on the harp. And of course there was the great Levitical choir in the Temple itself!

Dov Bar-Leib,

Since you are offering some very detailed interpretations combined with political observations, perhaps you could identify yourself and your main rebbeim and other mentors, so as to establish your credentials.

There's something humorous yet dishonest about someone commenting as Anonymous requesting another commentor to provide his pedigree.

Why is it bad to write or say names of evil forces? I thought its only G-d's name you can't say or write.

Akiva,

If the anonymous didn't make any statements or claims before anyway, why would his pedigree be germane?
