North to Meron, Hello Safed – Lag B’Omer 2011
by Reb Akiva @ Mystical Paths
As I headed to my car with travel bags, my neighbor exited his apartment with travel bags. We looked at each other and smiled, “Going to Meron?” he asked. “Yes” I answered. He’s traveling to Teveria (Tiberius) for Shabbos and then heading to Meron after Shabbat ends. We’re doing the same thing, but in Safed.
The new route 6 North-South Israel toll-highway has been extended farther north, cutting 45 minutes off the trip. At the rest stop, buses and cars were loaded with chassidim and charedi Jews headed north for Shabbos and Lag B’Omer. And frequent hitchhikers were spotted with signs for towns north.
As we arrived in Safed – Israel’s mystical northern city of kabbalists and artists, the biggest problem was finding parking. The city is at capacity as people come for Lag B’Omer.
It promises to be an awesome Shabbos (G-d willing) and awesome Lag B’Omer.
As for world events or predictions for May 21st, it’s just a distant echo here as everyone tunes into a true reality…connecting with G-d via the deepest paths.
(G-d willing, updates and pictures to follow frequently. Check back regularly for Mystical Path’s live 2011 Lag B’Omer coverage from Safed and Meron, Israel.)
