Missing a Chance for the Geulah

by Reb Akiva @ Mystical Paths

beis-hamikdash

Approximately 20 years ago, a group of chassidim/rabbis/shluchim from Eretz Yisroel, who were in Crown Heights (Brooklyn, USA) for a conference approached the Lubavitcher Rebbe and asked him why he doesn’t declare himself Moshiach and the coming of the Geulah.  They asked the Rebbe what he was waiting for?

The Rebbe answered “Me? You’re waiting on me?? You have over 100 rabbis here for the conference, why haven’t YOU made a declaration?”  The rabbis hurried off to make such a declaration, but the moment was already lost.

Rabbi Nati (who’s been busy trying to make interesting Torah videos and hasn’t blogged here in a while but was our frequent co-blogger in the past) brings sources that explain that while the final Geulah is similar to the first Geulah (the exodus from Egypt)…As the geulah was (in Egypt), so the geulah will be. First the Jews cried out, Hashem heard and remembered. He sent Moshe rabaynu. When Moshe rabaynu came to redeem the Jews, he came to the elders. And the elders declared the redemption and informed the people, and Moshe accepted the leadership and began the redemption. We must CRY OUT to Hashem, together as one, as the Jewish people, it's time. And, we must demand, yes demand, of the elders, the gedolim of our generation, the princes of Torah, to declare it's time for the redemption.

Yeranen Yaakov brought the following news report from Matzav on Friday…

Various admorim and Torah giants were known for asking morei horaah, halachic adjudicators, to pasken that Moshiach should come. These rabbonim would say that a morah horaah, a posek, is given certain powers to issue a halachic ruling that can impact the metzius, the reality, of the world.

It was with this in mind that Rav Menashe Klein, noted posek and author of the Mishneh Halachos, who currently resides in Eretz Yisroel, posed a request to the posek hador at his home in Meah Shearim.

Rav Klein, during a recent visit to Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, asked the centenarian gadol to pasken that Moshiach should come. Rav Elyashiv politely refused, stating, “We cannot pasken [that the geulah should come], but rather, we should believe in and anticipate [the coming of the geulah].”

And thus was another opportunity lost.

Why?  Why can they not pasken that the geulah should come?  Why???  Because we won’t believe it?  Because they can’t pasken when they believe the klal won’t listen?

If the pashkevilim (the announcement posters in religious Jewish neighborhoods) are to be believed, the gedolim have no problem paskening on almost any issue – clearly including many that the klal are going to ignore.  Whether or not one should advertise on a particular web site, or go to the concert of a particular religious musician in a religious forum with religiously organized seating, whether a charedi school should be banned for teaching a class in science and english, whether the specific features of a cell phone are allowed or not.

Every little thing down to not only what’s an appropriate level of dress but the actual size, shape and color of the garments can bear the signature of Daas Torah and pronouncements in the name of the gedolim and poskim of the generation.

BUT THE GEULAH, ABOUT THAT THEY DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY???

Ribono Shel Olam, Master of the Universe, TRULY we have no one else to turn to!  Truly it is dark and impossible to see.  Truly we cry out AD MOSAI, until when????

Borei Olam, Creator of the world, if the big voices, the holy voices, those steeped in Torah from the day of their birth, refuse to cry out, please listen to our simple voices.  Please ignore our many aveyrot and lack of Torah and hear our honest and simple cry…

WE HOLD THAT IT IS TIME, BRING THE GEULAH SHALAYMA AND MOSHIACH NOW!

Rav Mordechay Eliyahu zl clearly stated that the key to the Geula is the release of Yonatan Pollard. Yonatan Pollard has part of Yosef's neshama. When Pollard is freed, Gilad Shalit will be freed, and then all Am Yisrael will be freed with the coming of Moshiach.

The Geula is dependent on one thing and one thing only, our submission to Torah! Returning to Hashem!

We must cry over how far we are from the truth, and start to find the good points in ourselves and each other! We can accomplish this all with one "SIMPLE TASK"!

We have to start to thank Hashem form WHERE we are for WHAT we have. Then our spirits will be awakened and we will return to the truth that HE and NOT US has run and is running and will run the world as He see fit!

So stop to complaining and stop all the lame excuses!

The Rabbis must be pressured to say it is time or they must be replaced at once we are running out of time.

With all due respect, this concept of "paskening" the geula is scarily incorrect.

I challenge you to bring a single source from the Rishonim or before that the Rabbis of a given generation can "pasken" the geula.

Thank G-d, R. Eliyashiv provided a kind response to this kind of silliness.

Sadly, even purported Torah scholars believe in this speculative fantasy.

Its out of our hands completely. HaShem will bring the geulah, via the hard road now. We had our chance, yes, but we cannot return to the Torah because of halachot. The rabbi's can pasken things that will make a difference now. Will they listen to anyone, not in a million years. The ones who follow the Torah to their best ability are not welcome in the "Torah" Jews world. A wise man learns from everyone, sometimes we are missing the mark, but even you Nati, with all due respect cannot see the forest for the trees either.

HaShem will announce the Mashiach. All else is nonsense. We won't even accept that fact either. Why on earth do you expect different results. Erev Rav is ruling the roost, end of game, end of story.

Ad Mosai? until Yerushalayim is divided by all the nations of the world or at least the world shows up to attempt it. The Prophets of Israel are clear that that is what happens in its time before it is time for Mashiach to come. That as you can plainly see is coming very soon, thank G-d, better sooner than later.

I also think that it is a mistake to ask any "Gadol" who sat in Sharon's Disengagement government to pasken anything about the coming of Mashiach until he apologizes to the 10,000 expellees and to his followers for not speaking out against the Crime before it occurred. Rav Ovadiah Yosef apologized for his support of Oslo and Wye to the Jews in Yesha. The same can be said about those who supported or were ambivalent to this more heinous Crime. Teshuvah this year may bring Mashiach in the next year or the very near future. We all need to repent of something right now. It is just that some Gedolim need to repent about bigger matters. It has been 5 and 1/2 years and we are still waiting. Apologies bein Adam le'chaveiro are part of the process by which Mashiach will come in its time with less suffering.

The previous comment is not meant to spur hatred just teshuvah so that the geulah comes in a less harsh way.

Wowwwwww. There is only two things to say:

1) Yasher Koach for that article
2) Amen, Ken Yehi Ratzon.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe worked very hard to arouse a messianic conscience in every Jew. That is why he insisted so much on Inyanei Moshiach U'Geulah. Some people wrongly believed that this insistence was the proof that he was proclaiming being Moshiach, but not at all. This insistence was to arouse the people to long for Moshiach and the Geulah. B'H, more and more Jews are longing for Moshiach. May he comes NOW!

reb nati was correct: the "way" to geulah is "today, if you listen" psalms 95:7.
paskening implies that it is in man's hands: big mistake.

From the article: "As the geulah was (in Egypt), so the geulah will be. First the Jews cried out, Hashem heard and remembered. He sent Moshe rabaynu. And, we must demand, yes demand, of the elders, the gedolim of our generation, the princes of Torah, to declare it's time for the redemption."

If we are to follow the blueprint of the first Ge'ulah (in Egypt), shouldn't we just "cry out", and leave it to haShem to send ... let's say ... Eliyahu haNavi, and let Eliyahu worry about getting the "elders"( i.e. the Gedolim of our generation, the princes of Torah) to declare "it's time for the redemption", and get things moving on from there ?

If "we must demand ... of the elders, the gedolim of our generation ... to declare it's time for the redemption", why didn't Benei Yisra'el demand a 'declaration of redemption' from their elders, instead of waiting till Moshe Rabeinu came along to do it for of them ?

From the article: "If the pashkevilim (the announcement posters in religious Jewish neighborhoods) are to be believed, the gedolim have no problem paskening on almost any issue – clearly including many that the klal are going to ignore. Whether or not one should advertise on a particular web site, or go to the concert of a particular religious musician in a religious forum with religiously organized seating, whether a charedi school should be banned for teaching a class in science and english, whether the specific features of a cell phone are allowed or not.

"

All the examples brought are of Pesaqim on what people are to do. How can we conclude from those that they should "pasken" that the Ge'ula is to come into reality( which is basically saying what haShem is to do) ? When have they ever "paskened" something like that before ?

Maybe, it is one thing telling people what to do, whether they listen or not, when relying on "Daas Torah", but that one has to have great confidence in his own "Tzadikut" to even attempt such a "Pesaq" on the Ge'ula, to say nothing of haShem actually agreeing that the Gadol is worthy of "צדיק גוזר והקב"ה מקיים".

Does personal spiritual Geulah manifest physically/nationally? 'Turn back to me and I will turn back to you'? Would a Pesaq demanded by the people with the understanding of the cause (and all that it entails) not produce the effect promised by Hashem? Not that the Pesaq is dependent.

Just learning, thanks
