Yosef is 72 years old. He is from Hungary. He survived the holocaust by hiding in a Catholic nunnery. He was five-years old. His mother was clever enough to acquire false papers showing he and his mother to be Catholics, and not Jews. There was a special head nun there who risked her life to shelter Jews. G-d bless her memory. Yosef tells a scary story of nazis raiding the nunnery, and of the famous Raul Wallenberg coming to save them from expulsion and certain death.
Today was his first day ever in Israel, and the first time he ever put on tefillin. It is a big day in his life. He stood by the Kotel and thanked G-d for all of the good that He has done for him.
I sent Yosef this picture and asked him what he would like to say to the world. After all he has gone through, I wondered what would be on his mind. This is what he wrote:
“Thanks that you helped me praying for my beloved ones, for my three children and three grandchildren. It was really a gift for me. God bless you.”
What is Yosef’s message for the world? He said that it is a gift to pray for your loved ones.
