Please Make Death Arrangements Appropriately
Sunday, March 22, 2009
From our local community email list in Israel...
Dear Community:
Please be aware that the cost of a plot at the Eitz Chayim cemetary will increase by $600 from $4900 to $5500 as of April 1, 2009.
If interested, please call the office and make appropriate arrangements now to beat the price increase.
Sincerely,
Your Local Cemetery

What if you die broke? Do they just throw you away?
Well, this cemetery as a very nice view! They have another behind the industrial park for those on a budget.
Is this a joke?
Are they also making money on burying the departed?
Are you talking about the cememtary in RBS?
In Israel, standard funeral preparations are almost free from Bituach Leumi. A lot of the money goes to the Chevra Kadisha and this covers: the salaries of the maintenance crews, as well as office staff, and for constructing those cement hives used in Israel (to prevent the graves from migrating underground. It happens...)
Anyway, there are many 'closed' cemetaries. The term closed is given by the government when it reaches a certain percentage of capacity. The large cemetaries have brisk business and the Chevra Kadisha there has constant cash flow to maintain services. At the closed cemetaries, business is about to dry up and to cover the cost of on going maintenance, funerals there are quite expensive. Most spots are taken up, or have already been reserved (purchased) for spouses.
It's a premium priviledge to be buried in one of these cemetaries inside the cities as opposed to the major ones where most people are sent.
It is still too expensive to die. I think I will stay alive a little longer! :)
LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Heaven can wait.
