Baruch Dayan Emet

Blessed is the True Judge. Mystical Paths notes the passing of HaRav Avraham Chaim Kahanaman, the head of the Ponovitz Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, at the age of 96 this evening.

He took over as head of the Ponovits Yeshiva in 1969, after the founder and his father, HaRav Yosef Kahanaman, zt"l.

We had the privilege to know Rav Kahanaman, and were impressed with his incredible simplicity and personal frugalness in his complete focus on Torah.

While many have been declared gedolay Torah and Rosh Yeshiva's at Ponovits, the Kahanaman family are the ones who, from the time of HaRav Yosef, have been completely dedicated to building and growing the yeshiva, and keeping the lights on. Funding and operating such an organization (the 3rd largest yeshiva in the world) is no simple matter, nor one often appreciated.

May his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren be comforted among the mourners of Tziyon and Yerushalayim.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but will surely be on Tuesday.

Boruch dayan ho'emes.

A small correction. It's Ponevezh, not Ponovits. Panevezys in Lithuanian I think.
