The US Economy on the Edge

by Akiva at Mystical Paths

"The stock market has begun a correction."

"As the market for risky mortgages collapses, dragging home values and stock prices down with it..."

The US Federal Reserve (the US central bank) will meet determine interest rates and related economic controls. (Though they won't announce the results until Wednesday.)

Economic swings are normal. The world economy has been relatively hot for a long time, especially China. The US has been holding steady, even in the face of an extreme increase in energy prices, through very low interest rates generating a very hot real estate market. Conditions have changed, the impact is starting.

Technically, it's not so unusual for a downturn to start. But timing is everything.
