Young Thoughts on Parshas Vaera
by Akiva at Mystical Paths
My son brought home these insights from yeshiva for this past Shabbos...
In the beginning the the parsha, Rashi explains the word 'lachain' is within an oath that Klal Yisroel (all of Israel) will be redeemed whether they are worthy or not. There are 5 expressions of geulah (redemption) in the parsha:
Vihotzasee - I will take you out.
Vihetzaltee - I will save you.
Vigaaltee - I will redeem you.
Vilakachtee - I will take you for a nation.
But then Hashem says, "and you will know that I am Hashem". After this...
Viheyveytee - I will bring you to the Land of Israel.
The 5th level of geulah requires one to "know" Hashem. Since Klal Yisroel sinned in the desert, they did not fulfill knowing Hashem and did not enter the Land.
