Top Hamas Election Comments

Tzemach of MentalBlog: This just in...Prominent members of the Fatah announced today that they are disillusioned with the extremists taking over their government. They will give up their ministerial positions in PA to join Kadima…

Scott Adams of Dilbert Fame: You know the old joke about the dog that chases cars – “What would he do if he caught one?” I was reminded of that when I read that Hamas won an election victory. I imagine a room full of Hamas leaders looking at each other behind closed doors and saying, “Oh crap, we won.”

And I imagine the Israeli leaders sitting around behind closed doors and saying, “It just got a lot easier to find the people we want to kill.”

I have to think it will be difficult for Hamas to reconcile the whole “destroy Israel” platform with “We’ll all be at the Parliament building at noon talking about how to do it.”

Speaking of Hebron

The Lubavitcher Rebbe speaks on Hebron, was he speaking of right now???

These days something totally shocking is taking place, specifically with Hebron. Unbelievable: a gathering of tens of Jews. How are they preoccupied, using their intelligence? Standing in judgement over Hebron! Was Hebron captured, or occupied from a foreign power! No shame, not for themselves, nor others, nor before gentiles who know what is written in the Bible, Hebron, the Cave of Machpela and the surrounding field was bought by Abraham our forefather even before the giving of the Torah, and that he paid for this 400 silver shekels...

Yet regardless, these Jews publicly present themselves at a special sitting express their ‘wisdom’ attempting to purify their vile thoughts. Their thinking is far below the impurity of vermin. Instead of using their intelligence to choose [a policy of protecting Jewish] life...

Rather they utilise their G-d given minds to cheat themselves and those around them by announcing that Hebron belongs to others, making announcements as if Hebron is some sort of liberated territory.

Social Bookmarks of Any Value to You?

Before spending time adding another blog feature that might take some time to figure out, I thought I'd check if any readers would actually use it.

I can add a feature at the bottom of posts to allow you to 1-click add it to Del.icio.us or Furl or Digg or Yahoo bookmarks (and for those who read by RSS or Newsreader, there's already an option from Feedburner to add to Del.icio.us.)

So, would anyone actually find this useful? (If you have no idea what Del.icio.us or Furl or Digg are, then you're among the vast majority and your answer is a resounding no.)

Training Murderers to Lie

The radicals are learning how to massage their message. Nashat Aqtash, a communications professor at Birzeit University on the West Bank, has been tutoring Hamas candidates on the language of modern politics. He says he learned one of his most valuable lessons from watching Bush's spin doctors: replace hot-button words with polite equivalents. "We don't need to 'kill people'," he says. "We need to 'remove occupation.' Both are the same, but the meaning is totally different." And aim your pitch to attract swing voters. "People tackling social issues get higher votes," he says. "When you kill, don't say you're going to do it. Just do it. And then say you're sorry."

A Bitter Slice of Bread

"One can even be in a situation wherein a slice of bread is more real than Divine holiness..." - Rabbi Steinsaltz, The Long Shorter Way, commenting on Tanya chapter 31.

How low am I that such a statement seems almost absurd to me! Where do I see the reality of kedusah (holiness) the way I see the reality of the plate of food set before me? Ribono Shel Olam (Master of the Universe), why am I so blind to you in this world?

How bitter a situation.

Rav Kaduri - Baruch Dayan Emes

Blessed is the True Judge. We note with sadness the passing of the great and holy sage, the master mekubal (kabbalist) of our time, Rabbi Yitzchok Kaduri, zt"l. His prayers shook the heavens for K'lal Yisroel (the Jewish people), and his wisdom of the mystical and the revealed was beyond measure.

A little more on Rabbi Kaduri is written here.

Of Templates and Changes

When I first started blogging, I thought it was very important the 'features' that the blog offered the reader. I combed through other blogs sidebars to find every feature I could and add it in. While that was interesting (I like fiddling with the technology), it wasn't too long before I figured out that no one was coming here for the features, rather for something worth reading.

Lately I've been picking up hints from Mirty on her blog and her blogging blog, such as selecting an easier to read font and to declutter the sidebar.

There was one feature I wanted to add, however. That was the ability for the page, or rather the posts, to dynamically change width if the browser window was resized. Hunting around I found a model that did this, here, with some more hints from Mirty about CSS page layouts, I was then able to merge in the new functions while keeping the features from the default Blogger TicTac template I was using. I also used this color scheme site to help me select a color scheme that works together (something I'm never good at).

After all that I came across an article discussing that people are uncomfortable reading too wide a page width, so I shrunk it back down a bit again. (SoccerDad is probably a good example of this problem, though I like his posts and read anyway.) Of course, this is a bit tricky with different people reading on different size screens. One thing the new format does do is allow it to be cleanly read on 800x600 without ending up with a bottom scroll bar and the sidebar resizing to fit that space. On the negative side, if you resize it small enough the sidebar will disappear on Internet Explorer (this doesn't happen on Firefox).

So, be honest, what do you think? My son wandered over (don't ask what he's doing up at this hour) and expressed his opinion, he says "yeck!".

Cognitive Dissonance

  • If someone is called upon to learn something which contradicts what they already think they know — particularly if they are committed to that prior knowledge — they are likely to resist the new learning. Accommodation is more difficult than Assimilation.

  • Counter-intuitively, if learning something has been difficult, uncomfortable, or even humiliating enough, people are less likely to concede that the content of what has been learned is useless, pointless or valueless. To do so would be to admit that one has been "had", or "conned".

  • President Bush on Thursday did not rule out dealing with Hamas, which won the Palestinian parliamentary elections, but said the militant Islamic group would have to renounce its call for Israel's destruction. “Peace is never dead,” Bush said at a news conference when asked if he ruled out ever dealing with Hamas.

  • If Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert threatens to sever ties with the Palestinians, boycott them, further delay funds owed to them or impose any other punishment, Olmert will find himself facing increasing international pressure to honor the legitimate, democratic election results, and to prevent the collapse of the Palestinian Authority's social and public services.

Shocker!

Oh incredible shocker. Hamas has won the elections in the Palestine territories. Everyone is stunned. How could such a thing happen?

I'm listening to the opinion makers and sayer's stumble. Some how it must be ok, right? It couldn't possibly be that the Arab voter in the voting areas actually voted for terrorism? It must be a turning point, that Hamas is actually giving up terrorism (they've explicitly said otherwise), that they'll give up their weapons (they've explicitly said otherwise), that they'll negotiate, because you negotiate with your enemy not with your friend (they've explictly said otherwise).

The saint of democracy lies slain. A population has voted for terrorism, murder, evil. (Of course, it's not like they had a choice between the Green Peace party and the Terrorism Party, but that's besides the point.) What now oh world? Will you recognize that this has been the situation all along? What now, oh U.S. who actually directly funded the opposing party's election run, paying for their advertising and buying votes? What now, oh Israeli government, acting Prime Minister, Kadima and Labor parties, will you continue to drag Jews out of Hebron while the official governing party of your enemy is firing missles daily in to your cities?

Because, in such a non-sequitur situation, it's important to know:

What's yellow and dangerous? Shark infested custard!

Video & Audio: Rabbi Brody Live in New Jersey

01-22-- 021
I was very fortunate this past week to attend the BeyondBT blog melava malka (after Shabbos meal) in Passaic New Jersey (on Jan. 22nd) with speaker Rabbi Lazer Brody. Rabbi Brody is well known within the Jewish blog-o-sphere for his Lazer Beams blog, but let me tell you he is an amazing speaker! The passion and ahavas yisroel (love for your fellow) poured forth as he spoke.

But, rather than take my word for it, see (or hear) it for yourself! The topic of the shiur (lesson) was Teshuva (return), Baalie Teshuvot (those who have returned), and Tranquility.

Video: Rabbi Brody, first 20 minutes.
Video: Rabbi Brody, next 12 minutes.

Rav Kaduri Update

The great and holy rabbi, the righteous sage and master kabbalist of our time, HaRav Yitzchok Kaduri, shlita, has been in the hospital for the last week and a half. For most of this time he has been unconscious, reports are of slight improvements today.

Kaduri.Net (hebrew) and IsraelNationalNews are reporting he awoke right after Shabbat and delivered this message:

"“The Kabbalists will investigate my words [presumably esoteric material] over the last months, about Geulah [Redemption] and Moshiach and will reveal the secret name of Moshiach which was revealed to me on the 9th of Cheshvan, 5764 (November 11, 2003)."” The rabbi said he actually met the person who will be Moshiach on that date.

The rabbi said of the Moshiach, "“He won'’t come and say '‘I am the Moshiach. Give over the rule to me.'’ Rather the Kabbalists would discover the secret name among my '‘hidden' words and the nation will push him to lead it."”

Amein, kein yehi ratzon!

Please continue to add him to your prayers for a speedy and complete recovery, for HaRav Yitzchok ben Tufacha. It is customary to read the verses of tehillim (Psalms) k'pitl 119 (Psalm 119) for a sick person's name followed by KR"A SaTa"N. In this case, it is Yud - Tzadik - Ches - Kuf - Kuf - Reish - Ayin - Sin - Tes - Nun.

Concern for our Brothers

I received an email from Asher Rozenfeld that shared these important thoughts...

Over 60 years ago, on 26 Adar 5705, the Frierdiker Rebbe (6th grand rabbi of chabad hassidus) spoke a heartbreaking sicha (religious talk) of what will happen to the children being educated by the Zionists in Israel. These words were printed in Sefer HaSichos (of Chabad Chassidus) 5705:

"Jews! Men and women! In the Land of Israel, Jewish children are slowly being destroyed. Anti-religious people among the group of leaders who are responsible for the orphaned refugee children in Israel, have created a "Shmad corner" for the children who have been entrusted to their care.

In the places in Europe conquered by Hitler, Yemach Shmo (may his name be erased), he set up extermination camps to torture and burn Jewish bodies; in Israel, a certain group has set up extermination camps to torture and destroy Jewish souls. The "Shmad corner" which is actively prosletyzing the Jewish refugee children, is educating the children by Hamans who are dedicated to the same path and education as the men of the Yevsektsia, the evil ones.

The "Hamans" teach the children to violate Shabbos, to eat Treif (non-kosher), to eat on Yom Kippur, to eat Chametz on Pesach (Passover). They don't even allow the children to say Kaddish (memorial prayer) for their martyred parents who were killed Al Kiddush Hashem (in the name of G-d, for being Jews). They teach the children to ridicule G-d and Yiddishkeit (Judaism).

The orphans who are being educated by the 'Hamans' [will grow up to] tear up Sifrei Torah, burn down Batei Knesiyot (synogogues), destroy Jewish cemeteries, lead pogroms, stab, burn and shoot at Jewish bodies. They will rob and loot Jewish property..."

Regretfully in August 2005 in Gush Katif and Northern Shomron (West Bank) the whole world saw fulfillment of this fearsome prophecy... Except for the words in bold! So, look at latest news (22/1/06):

Police Chief Moshe Karadi refused to rule out the use of live fire in the confrontation over the eviction of the residents of Hevron's Shalhevet neighborhood. "No more mixed messages," he said. (Source here.)

Gevald! Gevald! Wake up from this terrible Golus (exile)! This is the time to say the truth and get our priorities right. The Haman's of our time are people like Sharon and his evil government machine. These are the people the Frierdiker Rebbe is talking about! They are the "Shmad corner"!

Where is our Ahavas Yisrael (love of your fellow) for the victims of these evildoers? Why are we saying Tehillim (Psalms) for Sharon and not for his victims? Is this what the Rebbe would call Ahavas Yisrael (love for your fellow)? Where is the protest, that the Rebbe emphasized so much in the name of Ahavas Yisrael (love of your fellow) and Pikuach Nefesh (risk to life)?

Do you want, G-d forbid, to see the fullfillment of the rest of that prophecy? Then DO SOMETHING! Protest, scream! This is a case "when silence is a sin". Regarding this the Rebbe said: "When the Torah says, 'You shall not stand idly by your brother’s blood,' it does not mean that you are only required to involve yourself when you are certain that your efforts will be successful. Rather, even if there is only a slim chance — even only the slightest of chances — that you will succeed in your protest being heard, you must do this, for it is the unequivocal ruling of the Code of Jewish Law!"

Amein.

More on Ruach HaKodesh

R. Natan from Yiddishkeit.Org sent me this additional info on the subject of Ruach HaKodesh (meaning a wisdom or insight that seems to reach beyond the physical world)...

There is a lot written on this subject in Chabad Chassidus, if it interests you it's worth a look.

It is not the case what is stated in the blog that "The "height" of the connection differenciates between nevua (prophecy) and ruach hakodesh, with the higher levels having closed post-beit-hamikdash "

See the attatched from the Rebbe Rashab (the 5th grand rabbi of Chabad hassidus), that the "source of Ruach Hakodesh is higher than the source of Nevuah", however the revelations of nevuah are greater.

Additionally, the Rebbe (7th grand rabbi of Chabad hassidus) explains (I recall seeing it the Basi Legani maamar of last year or the year before) that it is not the case that Nevua itself ceased with the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash (holy Jewish temple), but rather the tachtonim ceased to be vessels to receive it. But the "signal" of nevuah is still being broadcast, as it were, and should a person become fit for it, it could rest on him even in our day.

Hmm, this differs a bit with the source that I learned from, but I'll assume that's a lack of understanding on my part (likely) rather than a contradition of the sources.

So while I said that the doorway to the level of prophecy is closed, this lesson teaches rather that the purity (in this physical world) required to reach that level is what's no longer available.

Thanks for the additional insight!

(The graphic was provided as the source info from R. Natan.)

Ruach HaKodesh

Within the Jewish religious world we frequently hear of certainly righteous and saintly individuals, usually those who have risen to a leadership position because of their knowledge combined with extreme piety and righteousness, as having or demonstrating "ruach hakodesh", meaning a wisdom or insight that seems to reach beyond the physical world (as it involves knowledge or insight a person wouldn't have, causes of health problems, location or contacts for a marriage partner, solutions to infertility problems, personal providence). It's also attributed to certain rare master kabbalists.

Technically, what is it? What is this extra-wisdom of these special blessed rare individuals?

Here's my understanding: Ruach HaKodesh is success in using a level of purity, concentration and meditation (in particular standard Jewish ritual/religious patterns) that allows one's mind & neshoma (soul) to bridge beyond the physical world. The "height" of the connection differenciates between nevua (prophecy) and ruach hakodesh, with the higher levels having closed post-beit-hamikdash (after the time of the holy Jewish temple).

It requires exceptional levels of all of it's ingredients, purity, concentration, and knowledge of specific Jewish religious meditative techniques.

Hints and Prophecy : Olmert

The following, everything below, is from HashemIsOne, a hebrew prophecy site, translation is from "J" of the LeDavid discussion forum [brackets I've added to translate terms]...

...As it won't be wise to bring here a few from Chazal's [the sages] hinting, and there's no need to elaborate why (and he who would want can understand something from another), there will be brought here the things that are written in the book of Eliyahu [Elijah], that according to the tradition describes the things that were revealed to Eliyahu HaNavi [Elijah the Prophet], when he ran away from Izevel, after he published HaShem's [G-d's] unity in the world on Mt. Carmel. Just as a reminder, this is what's written in Melachim Alef, 19:

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Eliyahu, saying: 'So let the gods do [to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time.' And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belonged to Judah, and left his servant there.
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom-tree; and he requested for himself that he might die; and said: 'It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.'
And he lay down and slept under a broom-tree; and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him: 'Arise and eat.'

Some of the things that happened afterwards are not told in the Tanach [bible and prophets], but are brought in the "book of Eliyahu", here they are:

The book of Eliyahu:

And he lay down and slept under a broom-tree; and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him: 'Arise and eat'. A secret has been told by Michael, the great Sar of Israel, to Eliyahu HaNavi in Mt. Carmel: The Ketz [the end-of-days time] and time that is about to be in the end of days, in the end of 4 kingdoms, in the days of a fourth king that is about to be.

[Said Eliyahu HaNavi]: I was carried by Ruach HaShem [a wind of G-d], and was brought into the south of the world, and saw there a high place in fire, and no creature can get inside.

Again I was carried, and brought to the east of the world, and I saw there stars fighting each other and not resting.

Again I was carried, and brought to the west of the world, and I saw there souls in great distress, each according to his deeds.

And then Micahel told me the Ketz of the future that is to happen in the end of days, in the days of a king that is about to be, named Harmelt (הרמלת), and some say named Tarmla (תרמלא). Rabbi Yehuda ben Betira says named Koresh. Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochay says named Hachsara, and Halacha is like Rabbi Shimon who said named Hachsara.

The last king that in Persia will go to Rome three years, one after the other, until he revolts against it 12 months, and three heros of war are going against him from the sea, and they will be handed over to him. A very low king, son of a servant, Gigit, will go against him from the sea, and these will be his signs that Daniel [the biblical prophet] saw in him: his face long, between his eyes height(?) (eyebrows?), and he is very tall, and his feet are tall, and his legs are thin.

And he shall in that day come against the believing people, and shall tremble in that day 3 times (? or: will sweat in that day 3 times?) and all the Mazalot will gather to one place, taking homes unlawfuly from their owners, and taking fields, and beating orphan and widow in the market, but if they'll do Tshuva, they will be forgiven...

I want to focus on something that may seem to many clear enough, on what the Midrash elaborated: the name of the "king", the ruler, that in his time, the Ketz will be, because all the other details - it's unclear how far are they from the Ketz.

Pay attention: the original name is Harmelt or Tarmla, and then there are opinions of sages on his name. From what I know of Midrashim, their opinions here are not exactly his name, but teaches on his personality or his events (in a footnote: he may seem Kosher to those who are not Medakdekim. He may die an Askara death, the worst death according to Gemmorah), so he who wants to know the name itself should focus in the first things that were said.

No one expects that Chazal will write us the exact name, only in some similarity, like "Gog" hints "George" (as was approved by the Rav who forsaw Tsunami), Now, take the name Tarmla in Hebrew: תרמלא and read it backwards: אלמרת (Alef-Lamed-Mem-Resh-Tav), and it's pretty clear: אלמרט (ט and ת are changable), Ehud Olmert, the PM replacement, is the ruler than it his days, according to this Midrash, the Ketz will come!

(By the way, also the first name: Harmelt, is very close to Olmert, only change the Resh in Lamed and you get: Holmert or Olmert)

Again, the saying of the Midrash of "taking homes unlawfuly from their owners, and taking fields, and beating orphan and widow in the market" seem very close to what we see lately in Chevron, where Jews are being expelled violently from homes that belong to Jews in the Chevron market.

(it elabortes that this area belongs to Jews, and was approved in a Moslem court as such. Also it says that according to another Midrash the main troubles will be in the desert of Yehuda, and also Yerushalayim, and concludes: be ready for the coming of Moshiach)

Brief Update from Hebron

A brief update from IsraelReporter Shlomo (via email from his site, IsraelReporter.Com)...

"I remain in Chevron, as possibly the last remaining non-resident protestor, having by great divine providence avoided arrest, injury from numerous sources, expulsion from Chevron region...

The entire child protestor population (remarkable heroes) have either left, been deported, or arrested. The ghost-like quiet that pervades the town now is an eerie contrast to the horrid and horrific sights and sounds of the multiple invasions that occurred this week. The military closure remains in Chevron, and renders me incapable of moving outside my office space without risking arrest, and has restricted access to Jewish worship at the holy burial sites of our Father and Mothers (the cave of the Patriarchs).

Preparing the Soul

Chassidus, the path of the Baal Shem Tov, focuses on the path of chesed (kindness) and ahavat yisroel (brotherly love). The pure path of kabbalah involves equal parts of chesed and gevurah (strickness, severity). The following tidbit from HaYom Yom & Tanya is therefore unusual, as it's from the path of chassidus but discusses the kabbalistic ideas of preparation of the soul for after death, while still in this life, and the consequences of not doing so...(from the HaYom Yom entry of the 7th of Tevet)...

To avert Chibut hakever ("Purgatory of the grave") recite words of Torah, Tehillim, etc., for one sixth of the day (4 hours). To merit purity of the soul that obviates Kaf Hakela ("the hollow of a sling"), spend as much of the day as possible in reciting Mishna, Tanya and Tehillim by heart.

The comment on this entry notes "Chibut hakever and Kaf Hakela are processes of purgatory undergone by the soul after death. (see Tanya p. 29 and p. 33)."

As explained, before the soul is even ready for Gehenim (the place of souly cleansing after this life for those souls that are too stained to enter the next world), it first must be separated from this world. For those souls that are overly attached to this world, this is a two step process, one to truly separate from the body, and one to separate from the physical world.

It's not considered pleasant.

Hebron Situation Continues

IsraelReporter Shlomo Wollins continues his updates and live videos from Hebron.

Don't read the news reports and summaries, check the video's and see for yourself!

The riot police of the Israeli government conducted the second invasion and lock-down of the central Avraham Aveinu neighborhood in Chevron. The intention was to locate/deport/arrest any person (in particular children) who are currently in Chevron, that is not a resident of Chevron. As the time of this update, 5 Chevron women (long-term residents) have been arrested outside of their houses as a result of their refusal to show identification (see video below of 2 local girls arrested for same reason). The refusal to show ID is a form of protest against the “police-state” conditions that exist now in Chevron, which is the first of Jewish cities and the second most holy site/city in the Jewish religion...

JM in the AM: Disappointing

It was very disappointing to hear Nachum Segal on JM in the AM (New York City, USA area morning Jewish radio program) speaking about the situation in Hebron today. Though plenty of non-MSM sources abound, such as those posted here, that are literally video'ing and photo'ing events in the area live, he read the government line straight out of the Jerusalem Post.

Audio here, advance to 32:40.

"Evil hooligans rampage against innocent policemen. The brave security forces have driven off the uncivilized vandals who threaten to bring chaos to the region." (Ok, it's not an exact quote.)

Dear Jewish World, wake up! The news, the Israeli government, the Yesha Council, all have only their interests at heart. And their interests are not Judaism, Torah, Hashem, or the emes (truth). Their interests are money, power, control.

When you can literally see and hear for yourself (see it at IsraelReporter.com), why rely on biased reporters and propagandizing spokesmen???

The area called the marketplace in Hebron (the shuk) has been Jewish owned for over 200 years, and Jewish occupied for 129 of those years. The years it was unoccupied was due to the residents being slaughtered by the Arabs, hauled off by the British, and not permitted to return (until 5 years ago) by the Israeli's. Now they're back and the decendents of the murderers who took it in 1929 demand it back!

So the post-Zionist post-Jewish Israeli government says, of course, whatever you want. And if you (the owners, the Jews) don't agree, you're criminals!

Yidden! Hevron! Avraham, Yitchok, Yaakov! Does the land, Eretz HaKodesh, truly mean so little?

Live Hebron Update!

Shlomo Wollins of IsraelReporter reports (exclusive to Mystical Paths):

I am here in a closed military zone of Chevron, reporting the violence and even worse, near non-response of adult community to assist the City of The Avot (our Fathers) to avoid military occupation, like occurred just yesterday.

I saw young girl trapped behind riot police/horses alone (3 1/2 years old), she started screaming....I know the parents....she now will not go outside OR leave mothers' side. The mother told me (they live in shuk {market area} under expulsion orders---interview with her on my website now) that when mother cut herself in kitchen and the child saw the blood, the child said that the soldiers must have done this to her.

Does anyone think that this child will not carry distrust and fear for life, effecting marriage and personal growth?

Who reports this? Who is outraged? What compensation is there for the security of a child, who is as holy and cute as the day is long.

And the days are very long here in Israel now...the state is in peril....we must not look for the state to do teshuva (repentence) since relying on miracles is not the Jewish approach.

Writing from a closed military zone, which means the post-Jewish government has done what Arabs & the British alike did, close the Machpela (the Holy Cave of the Patriarchs, burial place of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) to Jewish visitors.

The tears of the Avot (holy patriarchs) are running down the street as the nation is "exiled" from its holy place. Anyone who believes that this is "just the shuk" (just the marketplace area) and that Chevron is not subject to Gush Katif style elimination of Jewish existence simply is not connected to events on the ground.

They won't go for all Chevron prior to March 28th (Israeli elections), but the virtual non-response from adult Israelis and diaspora Jewry (a contradiction of terms post-1948) has sealed the fate of this city in my judgement...

..blessings and prayers..Shlomo in tears

Hebron under Siege! On Site Report!

IsraelReporter has live pictures and video from the Siege of Chevron. First the Arabs slaughtered them, then the British drove them out. Now the Anti-Israel Government Storm Troopers are out to drive them out again...

Shlomo Wollins of IsraelReporter is the only Jewish reporter on the scene inside with the community. Mr. Wollins reports:

Riot police invaded entire Chevron today...we are now closed military zone!! I am in middle of it, inside with the community. It was a miracle that I wasn't beat up or arrested today.

Amazingly, there are virtually no adult protestors...me, Rebbetzin Levinger, and 1,000 kids! There has been and will be serious violence. All are expecting this closure order to result in a violent expulsion after the court ruling in morning.

Little kids were seriously traumatized today...some trapped (away from their parents and care givers) in the community playground alone!! Behind riot police and German riot horses. One child I know will not leave his mother's side for moment and won't go out for any reason. Unfortunately but not surprisingly, no main stream media source (either Israeli or international) reports this damage.

After watching the Evacuation Force physically attack the protesting children yesterday, I confronted them (the Yassam police who are trained to forcefully evacuate Jews) and told one to his face that he is coward to hit children and is afraid of the real enemy (Arabs).

He wasn't sure whether to hit me (with his carried riot stick), arrest me, or ignore me. I told him that Jews have midot (attributes): chesed (kindness), rachamim (mercy), anava (humbleness), chochma (wisdom) and anyone who would do this and hurt children has none of these midot and is acting like an evil person.

I then screamed at 80 Yassam police, with all the cameras rolling from the International news, "We are supposed to be light to nations....where is the light in this?"

Shlomo writes, "You have no obligation to me...but it is a worthy and good mitzvah to support getting the word out on these events. I willingly put my life and body on line to do what I can to save these homes and protect these children from riot police.

Instead of building my web site and profession, I'm here in Chevron doing what I can. If you cannot be here, your support becomes part of my merit in being able to be here."

To which I answer, NO OBLIGATION??? G-D forbid that a Jew shouldn't help another, one who has been thrown out of his home in Gush Katif and still is working for the land of Israel. No Obligation to Chevron? G-d forbid a Jew shouldn't be obligated to the Avot, Avraham, Yitzchok, and Yaakov!

I want to hear, see, and know what's going on in holy Chevron, to Jewish land (bought, titled and paid for) and Jewish people.

Join me in helping Shlomo Wollins of IsraelReport out and keeping the real news, the real live reports, coming:

Background from IsraelNationalNews (source here)...

The army wishes to expel 11 Jewish families of Hevron from their homes on Jewish-owned land that once served as an Arab marketplace. Though many media reports say that the issue involves "Palestinian homes," the land was actually purchased by the Sephardic Jewish community of Hevron 200 years ago and transferred to the present-day Jewish community. Arabs worked there for a time, but did not live there.

In 1929, Arabs massacred 67 of their Jewish neighbors living in the Jewish Quarter. The survivors were hurriedly evacuated, and the Jewish houses and synagogues were abandoned and left uninhabited. In 1953, Jordanian troops assisted Hevron's Arab population in razing the remains of the Jewish Quarter, turning the beautiful Avraham Avinu Synagogue into a goat sty. On part of the land was built an outdoor food market, which continued to operate, even after the Jews returned during the Six Day War in 1967.

Just over a decade ago, when Arab-initiated violence in Hevron was at one of its highs, the army decided to improve Jewish security in the area by clearing out the Arab store-owners in the marketplace. Several years later, after an Arab terrorist shot to death 10-month-old Shalhevet Pass with a bullet to her head, Jews decided to renew their title to the land. They began renovating the stores, turning them into inhabitable apartments, and moving families in. Eleven families currently live there.

Senior Kabbalist Ill - Prayers for Rav Kaduri

The great and holy rabbi, the righteous sage and master kabbalist of our time, HaRav Yitzchok Kaduri, shlita, is ill and has been taken to the hospital in Jerusalem.

Please add him to your prayers for a speedy and complete recovery, for HaRav Yitzchok ben Tufacha.

A video of Rav Ovadiah Yosef, shlita, saying a prayer for his health is here.

Update: (via R. Natan of Yiddishkeit.Org)

It is a custom to read the verses of tehillim k'pitl 119 (Psalm 119) for the sick persons name followed by KR"A SaTa"N. In this case, it is Yud - Tzadik - Ches - Kuf - Kuf - Reish - Ayin - Sin - Tes - Nun.

It can be found online here, divided into two: Aleph-Lamed and Mem-Tav

Sharon's Stroke, George's Speech, Bound Together

I previously posted a brief translation summary of a hebrew article regarding a disabled Israeli leader (here).

My wife worked with me (her hebrew is worlds beyond mine) to translate the full article, and the summary glossed over several key points. This is all from this hebrew article on HashemisOne (source here)...

It's a little detailed, but especially check out the end! Comments in parens () are mine.

Title: The Sages on the lottery? of the leader before Moshiach.

There are many points in the words of the sages on the last leader who will be before Moshiach ben Dovid, and this may relate to the state in which Sharon (Ariel Sharon, Israel Prime Minister who just had a major stroke) is in. The time spoken about will occur in the hebrew month of Teves and half of Shvat (that is the time we are in now, January and February this year). An announcement that I read in the past on the web site about Moshiach and the Geulah, English side (LeDavid.Com), caused me to open up the books to clarify the midrashim of chazal (the sayings of the sages).

Here is what I found and is the basis of what I'm bringing. There are some nice things hinted at, but you shouldn't take this to have too great a meaning (it is just in the category of hints).

Hazal describe in their midrashim many things that are merely hinted at, especially regarding the last days before Moshiach. (An article on the web site) focused on avoda, when hazal are speaking about the last leader of Israel before Moshiach ben Dovid comes. It should be noted that hazal are referring to a leader who is {toranit-tzi-ee} army oriented, with the name of Nechemya, and not specifically referring to someone named Sharon, therefore look at these items as hints only. (Though it's something to say it's talking about a army oriented leader of Israel.)

The midrashim describe the body of this leader after he "dies". They say that for 40-45 days after his death, the body will remain without being buried, he will remain "a mutal met", and be right outside the gates of Jerusalem. But the bigger surprise is that the body will not get worms nor be bothered by wild animals or birds. According to one of the commentaries that I read, it will not have the status of "tumas met" (it will not convey impurity of the dead upon those who touch it or enter the room with it). He/it will remain "alive", perhaps this is what is referred to in our day as brain dead.

It further explains that if the enemy was to know that the leader of Israel was truly dead, he would begin to cause great troubles to Israel.

The sources for this are, as well as more info:

Pirke Halachot, Aharit Hayamim, Section 2:169
Otzar HaMidrashim, 158
MeAm LoEz, Tehillim, Part 3
Otzrot Aharit HaYamim, Part 3, Perek Alef, Section 30
Otzrot Aharit HaYamim, Chelek Beis, 176 as brought down by Rav Saadia HaGaon

(The author further discusses the timing of Sharon's second stroke, which was on the 5th of the hebrew month of Teves.)

If the words of the Rav (mekubal / kabbalist) who foresaw the tsunami with regards to the topic of a nisayon (a test), that an additional month to two months are correct, then this can be accepted as the 40-45 days which the words of the hazal are referring to.

This 40-45 days are the same period of difference between the moadim (semi-holidays) described in the prophecy of Daniel (12), those days will be 1,290 (days), and until the person that comes will be 1,335 (days). So 1,335 minus 1,290 is the 45 days.

So what happened 1,290 days before the 2nd (severe) stroke of Sharon? I did a search on the Internet and found the date to be June 24, 2002. I didn't find anything exceptional except a speech by George Bush on the same day for his global plan for the Middle East, with a Palestinian state. The plan became known as the vision of George Bush for the Middle East, the seed of the trouble which became the expulsion of the Jews from Gaza and Bush sent in a letter to Sharon (source letter provided in Hebrew).

It's hard to understand that this vision of George Bush is the seed of the expulsion and our troubles and this is the time which is referred to in Daniel. I wouldn't post this except but upon further digging I found that the speech, the beginning and end of this vision of George, was given at 3:47 PM, EDT, and finished at 4:04 PM, EDT, which is GMT - 4 (4 hours back from GMT), and Israel time is GMT + 2 (2 hours forward from GMT), but in the summer with daylight time is GMT + 3. Therefore the time of this speech in Israel would be 10:47 PM - 11:04 PM. 10:47 PM is is exactly the time when Sharon was taken in the ambulance to Hassadah hospital, and as stated by the ambulance and emergency room personnel, Sharon's condition continued to worsen becoming critical 5 minutes before is arrival at Hadassah hospital, around 11:00 PM.

So if you go back 1,290 days from the exact minutes when the ambulance people say Sharon's condition became critical until he arrived at Hadassah, that is when George Bush was signing his speech.
...
The end of the 45 days will be moztie Shabbos parshas yisro, 20 days in the hebrew month of shvat, Feb. 18, 2006.

U.S. President George Bush's speech here, note start and end times.

Geulah Wow of the Moment!

Yeranen Yaakov brings another amazing Geulah hint, picked up from the hebrew HashemisOne...

Translation by Josh from the comments:

Essentially, he brings a number of midrashim that say that the leader before the coming of Moshiach ben Yosef will die but for 40-45 days will be believed to be alive, and his body will not decompose or be scavenged upon, and during that time he'll be kept before the gates of Jerusalem (I believe the Hadasa hospital is Ein Kerem, on the edge of Jerusalem today, no?). The reason for this (also given in the midrashim) is that if outside leaders knew he was really dead, they would attack Israel. He also brings Daniel 12, where a period between 1290 and 1335 days is mentioned (the difference being 45). And the author then counts back 1290 days from the stroke and finds a speech given by Bush where he speaks of a vision for the Mideast, which he says eventually leads to the Disengagement. And 1290 days after Bush finished his speech, almost to the minute, Sharon's condition worsened on the way to the hospital.
I don't normally copy verbatim other's posts, but this is a Wow! Wow!

Science Proves: 4 Mothers?

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't think of this when I read the science news, rather picked it up from IsraellyCool...

Some 3.5 million of today's Ashkenazi Jews about 40 percent of the total Ashkenazi population are descended from just four women, a genetic study indicates...

IsraellyCool Dave comments: Of course, the number four is already significant, in that there are four matriarchs in Judaism: Sarah, Rivka, Rachel, and Leah.

Now that's really cool.

Update: Yaak notes, "You can also say that the 4 women are Rahel, Leah, Bilhah, and Zilpah - the mothers of all the Shevatim."

Are Your Eyes Closed?

Rashi's first comment on this week's Torah portion asks why there is no gap (separation) between the end of last week's and the beginning of this week's.

Rashi answers, "Because when Yaakov avinu (our father) died, the eyes and hearts of the Jewish people closed due to the suffering of slavery, because it was at that time the Egyptians began to enslave them."

Commenting on Rashi's comment, "The eyes of the Jewish people were closed..."

In our times we are witnessing signs of redemption in the world, and it is tremendously upsetting to see that the Jewish people have their "eyes closed" and do not take note of what is occuring. - from the talks of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the above pointed out by the Gutnick Chumash, Parshat Vayechi.

A Hat, or an Action?

The intrepid DovBear, the "Internet Kohain Slaughtering the Sacred Cows" * (r) (tm), has a running series on the Hat within orthodox Jewish circles. His money quote of the day...

Rabbi L.: "The black hat. It is what marks a Ben Torah, and distinguishes him from all other segments of Jewish society"

Of course, I'll leave it to his "razor sharp pen" and commentors to slash at this statement. But I had to add this:

"Know the G-d of your fathers and serve Him with a whole heart." (Divrei Hayamim I, 28:9)

Every sort of Torah knowledge and comprehension, even the most profound, must be expressed in Avoda. I.e. the intellectual attainment must bring about an actual refinement and improvement of character traits, and must be translated into a deep-rooted inward attachment (to G-d) - all of which is what the Chassidic lexicon calls "Avoda."
- HaYom Yom, 6th Tevet

Improvement of self, improvement of the relationship between man, a man, and G-d, that's what distinguishes a Ben Torah (literally, a Son of the Torah, but meaning one who's recognized as having complete Torah focus in his life.) And that's why he stands out. If one's just wearing the clothes...

* This tagline is a registered trademark, all rights reserved or my lawyer will call your lawyer and bad things will happen, muhahaha.

Side Note on Moscow

A refuah shalayma to all of those injured in the murderous anti-semitic attack in the Moscow synogogue.

In looking at the picture, I've always wondered about the photographer at such times. Is he sitting there thinking, "oh, lucky I've got my camera, lets get a few shots of the murderous blood covered attacker"?

It seems to me a normal thought would be:

. "Oh (explitive), let's get the (explitive) out of here!"

Maybe if a person was feeling heroic or happened to have something nearby that might stop him...

. "Oh (explitive), let's throw this heavy chair at him to distract him while we get the (explitive) out of here and call the police!"

But I would never think anyone would say...

. "Good thing my camera has zoom, so I can stay back here and get some good shots of the blood."

Update: Apparently, if you're the rabbi's son, you say "I'm going to protect our people!"...

Rabbi Yitchok Kugen's son, (Rabbi?) Yossi Kugen said, "A man entered with a large knife in his hand. He stabbed the security guard and ran into the synagogue. He entered the kitchen and started stabbing those present,"

"I heard screams, jumped on him and caught him. I pulled him to the ground and then the security guards arrives and took away his knife and handcuffed him. Afterwards police arrived," he added. "I was not injured but I am covered in blood from the others. He tried to stab me but did not succeed."

Yasher Koach, well done and strength to you!

Justice, or Just Judgement?

The difference between Mishpat and Tzedek (both of which may be translated as "justice") is as follows: Mishpat is the strict application of the law, without consideration for the litigants, the time, or the place. Strict law must take its course, though the heavens fall as a result. Tzedek consists of deviating from the strict rule of law to the rules of righteousness, taking into account the matter in hand, the litigant, and, when necessary, the time, the place, equity, etc. - (Malbim on Mishna Peah 4:11)

When going to court, we expected Mishpat, pure justice between the parties. When going to the Rav (the rabbi), we expect Tzedek, the law with consideration of the right thing for us.

When going before G-d and the heavenly court, we beg for Tzedek and not Misphat. How can we be deserving of this? Demonstrate it to our fellow!

Where's Israeli Politics Headed?

Well, for the moment Israeli politics are somewhat in suspended animation, everythings on pause. Yet, rockets are starting to fall again, it can't hold still for too long.

From a commentor on the Jerusalem Post (which I've quoted previously):

...Ariel Sharon, may he enjoy a speedy recovery, has done much in the last year to earn the enmity of Jews who believe in prayer. And no, in life, you usually can't have it both ways....

The situation he leaves is dire and chaotic, and his actions have done severe damage to the Israeli political system. He did not build or change the system, he ordered a charge in a direction (he didn't lead one, he forced one). To do so he had to break part of the system and stability (and facade of democratic authority). Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view), he didn't have a chance to build a replacement.

Right now there's a gaping hole, a power vacuum, a lot of very disenfranchised voters, several segments of the public that now have become seriously excluded from the political process and are now under serious societal pressure.

For what they were, the checks and balances, the 'status quo' of Israeli society are gone.

The charedim (ultra-religious sector) are severely squeezed with seriously reduced assistance for the poor and religiously oriented educational institutions (from one direction with the government attempting to force secular standards on them, and from the other with decreased or removed funding).

The mizrachi (religious zionists) are severely squeezed, with Gaza, threats to the Shomron (West Bank population), and a change to the government religious educational system de-emphasizing zionism (as well as an 'official' move to 'post-zionism', whatever that means).

Just to show this is equal opportunity, the Arab-Israeli citizens are squeezed, they don't feel they get the government support, attention and money of the other sectors (it's true, they don't), and as the situation with the PA worsens, how to balance their loyalties.

None of them feel they have any redress or hope of influence. Why? Because every political party sold out some or all of it's major ideals under Sharon's political manipulations or machinations. Every. Single. One.

Religious, Ultra-Religious, Zionist, Ultra-Non-Religious, Right-Wing, Left-Wing. And the Arab parties keep teetering on the line of treason while complaining about lack of influence.

The best quote I've seen about considering voting for a party is this one from Cosmic-X:

Likud - Bwa Ha Ha!

Those who placed their faith in Democracy may learn that the best of bad choices is still a bad choice, and not to Whom to direct one's faith.

Why hasn't Moshiach come?

"Shaul (Saul) said to Yahonatan (Jonathan), his son, "Why did the son of Yishai (Jesse) not come to the meal either yesterday or today?" (Shmuel Alef 20:27, Samuel 1)

The Rebbe Rabbi Mendel of Kosov interpreted this verse thus:

The Jews ask, "Why has Moshiach, the son of Yishai, not yet come?"

The answer, "because of the meal..."

because they are preoccupied with their physical and material concerns.

Sharon - Praying, Name, Not Praying

As best I've been able find, PM Ariel Sharon's mother's name hebrew name is Devorah. Some have said Vera, this appears to have been her public name. It's not unusual for Jews outside of Israel to have a name country and language appropriate name and a separate hebrew name for religious purposes. This appears to be the case here.

In my last post I noted that HaRav Ovadiah Yosef had some angry words for the PM during Gaza. I should note now that he's called for healing prayers for the PM. Rabbi Yosef is not beyond expressing his feelings about a situation, positive and negative.

Many are very upset with Mr. Sharon for his turning his back on every single part of the political platform for which he was elected, destroying the social safety net in Israel, abandoning parts the holy land to the enemy, and making 9,000 Jew's homeless and jobless. Should these people pray for Mr. Sharon's recovery?

Lazer Beams says yes, here, after all, a brother is a brother.

A commentor on the Jerusalem Post brings this insight:

The Zohar (Parshat Nasso, & quoted l'halacha) states that to bless one whom you hate can actually be dangerous to both parties & is to be avoided. Ariel Sharon, may he enjoy a speedy recovery, has done much in the last year to earn the enmity of Jews who believe in prayer. And no, in life, you usually can't have it both ways....

Here, we continue to wish Ariel ben Devorah a refuah shalayma, a complete recovery, that he may have a long opportunity to enjoy a speedy retirement on his ranch in the Negev, be with his children and grandchildren, and a chance to write his memoirs.

Sharon - Mystical Status & Mystical Threats

Lazer Beams writes:

I've just received conclusive proof that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is still alive. One of the world's leading Kabbalists, Rabbi David Basri shlit'a, returned home recently from a visit to Sharon's bedside. Accompanied by his son Rabbi Yitzchak, the Basris prayed for the PM's recovery. Rabbi David Basri is a man of extreme purity; he held the PM's hand while praying for him, a clear sign that the PM is still very much alive and with us.

Though this doesn't contradict the possibility of extreme brain damage or even what's commonly called brain death (where the body is still functioning but the brain is sufficiently damaged that the body only continues functioning due to outside mechanical assistance).

With the strong disagreements this past year over giving away parts of Eretz HaKodesh, the Holy Land, for nothing, several spiritual threats were made against Mr. Sharon, here's one...

"Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, one of Israel's senior rabbis has called on God to "strike down" the evil one who pulls Israel out of the Gaza strip, in an obvious reference to Ariel Sharon. He also stated "The Holy One wants us all to return to the Torah, and then he will strike him with one blow and he will die. He will sleep and never wake up." - March 9, 2005 - YNetNews here.

Here's another...

"Pulsa Dinura - Fringe activists held a midnight kabbalistic ritual in an ancient cemetery calling for angels of death to kill Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and thwart his Gaza withdrawal plan, participants in the ceremony told WND.

The same individuals used the ritual against Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin one month before his assassination in 1995." - July 26, 2005 - World Net Daily here.

Not surprisingly, the latter one gets a lot of attention, if nothing else for it's pure weirdness factor. This prayer, the Whip of Fire, is an incredibly balanced 'curse'. The idea is something like this, "we are calling on this individual to be swiftly judged for his (seemily) horrible deeds, if we have called out in error then we take judgement upon ourselves for cursing a good man."

Sharon Update, Confusion, Possible Brain Death

Not surprising, there's lots of confusion over Prime Minister Sharon's condition. Here's the facts as best I can figure:

1. He had a major brain hemmorage, bleeding in the brain.

2. By the nature of such things, this means major brain injury.

3. He was in surgery in Jerusalem (Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital) for 5 hours.

4. Additional problems arose and he re-entered surgery for another 2-3 hours.

At this time he's either in a medically induced coma or a natural coma. His situation is extremely life threatening. The question is...

Reliable sources indicate to Israel Insider that PM Ariel Sharon died at 11 am. Israeli media channels still report his condition is "very grave." Director of Hadassah Hospital Shlomo Mor-Yosef officially denies "rumors" of death and says Sharon's condition is "serious but stable."

Channel 10 reports those closest to Sharon as saying he has suffered "brain damage." A likely explanation to reconcile the two reports is that Sharon has suffered brain death -- the lack of cerebral activity -- but that his heart continues beating, while he remains anesthetized and respirated.

A reminder, the custom among the Jewish people is to wish a person a refuah shalayma, a complete recovery, using his name and the name of his mother. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's name in this form is Ariel ben Devorah. It's also customary to say Tehillim (Psalms) for someone who is ill. We wish Ariel ben Devorah a refuah shalayma, a complete recovery, that he may have a long opportunity to enjoy a speedy retirement on his ranch in the Negev, be with his children and grandchildren, and a chance to write his memoirs.

Sharon Update, Situation Grave

A reminder, the custom among the Jewish people is to wish a person a refuah shalayma, a complete recovery, using his name and the name of his mother. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's name in this form is Ariel ben Devorah. It's also customary to say Tehillim (Psalms) for someone who is ill.

Haaretz reports the situation is grave, after over 5 hours of major brain surgery, Prime Minister Sharon had to be taken in yet again...

In the first detailed announcement on Sharon's condition, Professor Shlomo Mor-Yosef, director of the Jerusalem hospital, said after a CT scan administered after more than six hours of surgery that the prime minister had been taken back to the operating room.

"We are in the continuation of this operation," Mor-Yosef told reporters. "There are additional areas that must be treated."

"We expect the surgery will take several more hours. The prime minister is sedated and on a respirator. One could say his condition is grave," Mor-Yosef said.

Well, I'm no expert but have, unfortunately, had some similar medical conditions in our family. As far as I know, no one ever fully or even partially recovers from a _massive_ stroke. At best its just some physical paralysis, usually its major brain damage, recovery means partial paralysis, loss of some major functions (such as speech or sight), and major mental capacity problems. In an incredibly fortunate situation, it's just one or two of the above instead of all the above or worse (partial to complete vegatative state).

Even with the best medical care known to man, the likelihood of death is over 50% during the next week (that's just statistical counts, and we're not ruled by statistics but by individual cases, but still it tells you how serious it is), because the balance of functionality of the brain gets thrown off and all kinds of body systems go nuts (heart beat, liver, kidney's).

Even if he suffered only a minor to medium level of damage (seems very unlikely from the descriptions) and can recover, we're talking months to regain reasonable functionality, and a year to reach as functional a level as he can reach.

We wish him the best and hope that he can return to his family and friends for a peaceful and functional life. But, baring a miracle, his job as Prime Minister of Israel is clearly over.

Ariel ben Devorah

Sharon's Very Ill, and the Israeli Government is Teetering

News reports state that Israeli PM Ariel Sharon has been rushed to the hospital once again. Reports alternately state that he was rushed to Soroka hospital in Be'er Sheva or Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem (more likely the Be'er Sheva one is accurate, as that's close to his home).

We wish Mr. Sharon a refuah shalayma, a complete recovery, so he may have a long opportunity to enjoy his ranch in the Negev, his children and grandchildren.

Man Trackt, G-t Lachkt, men plan and G-d laughs. Mr. Sharon's plans to build a new party to remain in control of Israel's future are now set to result in massive chaos. Labor is seriously devolved, Likud is seriously damaged, and every other party is seriously stained. Cosmic-X, prior to today's events, really says it all here.

Seems to me Israel's government is in trouble, and the PM's political wrangling set it up for this fall, may he retire immediately and be well.
